Sophomores Brian Iatarola (17:08, 21st) and Rock Fortna (17:14, 24th) delivered their dependable 1-2 punch in the 177-man field. They were followed by great pack-running from freshman Brian Mass (17:31, 41st), junior Trevor Belding (17:32, 43rd), and sophomore Declan McDonald (17:34, 45th). Junior Matt Bowen (17:49, 59th) displaced 19 teams' 5th men and 17 teams' 4th men while classmate Ben Severn (95th, 18:32) displaced 15 teams' 5th men and 12 teams' 4th men.
West's varsity (5th, 174 points) followed host Council Rock North (73 pts), district III's Twin Valley (82), and local rivals William Tennent (92) and Pennridge (114). West outpaced Council Rock South (175), Hatboro-Horsham (178), Roman Catholic (200), Wissahickon (222), Upper Darby (281), Penncrest (355), Pleasant Valley (360), Holy Ghost Prep (377), and the rest of the field.
In JV action, West placed its top five in the top fifteen of the 259-man field to run away with the win. West's 53 points defeated Council Rock South (2nd, 79 pts), Pennridge (3rd, 89), Hatboro-Horsham (4th, 131), and the rest of the field.
With a 19-second 1-5 spread, juniors Beckett Wilson (17:58), Pat Kelly (18:01), and Andrew Baker (18:10) teamed up with sophomore Logan Mazullo (18:13) and senior Ben Aunins (18:17) to claim 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, and 15th. Juniors Matt Belding (18:38, 29th, PR) and Matt Bahner (18:40, 30th) were 6th and 7th for the Bucks, displacing all but two opponents' fourth and fifth runners.
Also placing in the top half of the field were senior Gray Wilson (43rd, 19:01), junior Tyler Press (47th, 19:05), sophomores Ryan McIlhinney (67th, 19:19, PR) and Carter Zerweck (75th, 19:25), juniors Troy Press (90th, 19:37) and Jacob Cawley (103rd, 19:52), senior Mark Farrell (125th, 20:21), and sophomore Brody Johnson (127th, 20:23). Junior Matt Young (167th, 21:06) and sophomore Ryan Hickey (182nd, 21:27) also ran personal bests.
The Bucks also ran away with the freshmen team title, posting just 27 points while their nearest opponent yielded over 100 points. Ben Smullen (17:56) and Alec Hofer (18:05) claimed 1st and 2nd overall. Teagan Fortna (9th, 18:42), Mark McClenahan (15th, 18:54), and Damian Refice (17th, 18:59, 71-second PR!) rounded out the scoring for the Bucks. Sixth man Big Joe Altadonna displaced all but six scoring runners in the field by virtue of his 21st place 19:26 showing. Seventh man Stephen Bolton (33rd, 19:55) displaced all but 14 scoring runners in the field. All seven of the Bucks' freshmen placed in the top 35% of the 97-man field.
The Bucks return to action at Wednesday's 3:30 dual meet at Hatboro-Horsham.
