West's Brian Mass was the individual champion in 9:56.41 seconds. Teagan Fortna (6th, 10:19), Ben Smullen (7th, 10:20), and Alec Hofer (14th, 10:30) also earned sizable trophies for their top-15 performances. Mark McClenahan stepped up as the Bucks' 5th man (32nd, 10:57) to close out the 61-second 1-5 gap. Big Joe Altadonna (46th, 11:10) and Stephen Bolton (53rd, 11:20) displaced 12 of the 14 opposing teams' top five runners while finishing 6th and 7th for the Bucks. Also finishing in the top half of the 161-man field were Christian Bobowicz (61st, 11:27) and Damian Refice (70th, 11:34). No local teams fielded scoring teams of five or more freshmen.
In the varsity race, sophomore Brian Iatarola earned a trophy for his 20th place performance of 17:51 on the challenging 5k course. Junior Matt Bowen (31st, 18:10), sophomores Declan McDonald (35th, 18:14) and Rock Fortna (40th, 18:23), and junior Trevor Belding (52nd, 18:35) closed out a 44-second 1-5 gap to place 7th out of 17 teams with 178 points. Junior Ian Davies (67th, 18:48) and senior Ben Aunins (78th, 18:55) displaced
half of the field's top five runners. Local rivals William Tennent (2nd, 95 pts), Council Rock South (4th, 161 pts), Central Bucks East (5th, 163 pts), and Hatboro-Horsham (9th, 192 pts) also competed.
Sophomore Logan Mazullo had the 6th fastest time of the day for the Bucks, leading the charge in the JV A race. His 18:40 was good enough for a 23rd place trophy in the massive field of 33 complete teams. Juniors Tyler Press (50th, 19:18), Andrew Baker (65th, 19:36), Troy Press (71st, 19:41), and Ben Severn (85th, 19:52) also placed in the top half of the 222-man field. The JV A Bucks placed 10th out of 31 full teams with 290 points. Council Rock North (8th, 235 pts), Council Rock South (9th, 249 pts), Hatboro-Horsham (11th, 301 pts), CB East (13th, 313 pts), and William Tennent (17th, 534 pts) also had complete teams in the race.
Junior Patrick Kelly also earned a trophy for his 14th place performance of 19:23 in the JV B race. Sophomores Carter Zerweck (41st, 20:23) and Brody Johnson (43rd, 20:26) combined with junior Jacob Cawley (52nd, 20:41) and senior Connor Baun (57th, 20:44, PR!!!) to place sixth out of 21 scoring teams of at least five runners. Sixth and seventh men Ryan McIlhinney (65th, 20:53) and Ryan Walsh (93rd, 21:14), both sophomores, displaced 75% of the competing teams' top five runners. West finished with 188 points. CB East (7th, 233 pts), Hatboro-Horsham (10th, 307 pts), Council Rock North (11th, 317 pts), William Tennent (12th, 329 pts), and Council Rock South (19th, 580 pts) also had enough runners to score as a team in the race.
The Bucks aim to keep the momentum going as they face Souderton and Quakertown on their home turf on Wednesday at Peace Valley Park AKA Lake Galena at 3:30 pm. Please bring a canned good to support the homecoming food drive "East & West United" benefiting the New Britain Food Larder!!!
