Some of West's best also excelled in individual events on Saturday. Seniors Shawn Young, Greg Branch, Austin Kline, and Chris Berry all turned heads. Shawn Young earned a 4th place medal in the hurdles, just missing the Meet of Champions qualifying standard of 9.04 with his PR of 9.07 in the finals. Greg Branch placed 6th in the 200 meter dash with his Meet of Champions qualifying effort of 23.99. Austin Kline earned a 3rd place medal and qualified for the Meet of Champions by over a second in the 400 meter dash with his 52.92. Chris Berry placed 6th and qualified for the Meet of Champions by four seconds in the mile run with an indoor PR of 4:36.85. Junior Riley Owens also earned a 4th place medal in the pole vault, clearing 10'6".
The freshman-sophomore 4x400 meter relay of Gillis Wang (58.8), Jacob Cawley (59), Sean Bristow (59), and Carter Zerweck (58.1) placed 2nd out of 24 schools with a 3:55.54. The foursome are now only allowed to compete in varsity events!
Ending the day with a gem, AJ Morgan (54.2), Andrew Baker (56.4), Rock Fortna (56.2), and Jimmie Kilgannon (56.3) placed 8th out of 22 schools in the 4x400 relay. The event marked a strong season debut at 400 meters for Morgan, Baker, and Fortna.
The Bucks return to action on Saturday at Haverford College at 8 am.
