field. Without sprinting standout Greg Branch, West left the track down 43-44, but West's field defeated East 44-19 to decide the victory of crosstown rivals.
After Jimmie Kilgannon and DhungJoo Kim placed 2nd and 3rd in the 300 hurdles, West's 4x800 of Eric Zoleski, AJ Morgan, Ben Smith, and Austin Kline rolled to victory in the 4x800 meter relay.
Impressively, East then swept the 100 meter dash without using blocks.
Nico Metzler and Chris Berry then went 1-3 in the 1600 in 4:28 and 4:34, followed by a 400 meter
sweep by Austin Kline (50.9), Ethan Long (52.3), and Eric Zoleski (52.4).
East then rallied back by winning the 4x100 meter relay in an impressive 43.7 seconds. East's Rosario followed suit by adding a 110m high hurdle win to his 300m intermediate hurdle win.
Ben Smith then fought hard to turn the tide back for West, as he overcame an East competitor who ran him out to the outside of lane three down the home straightaway to win the 800 meter run in 2:00.2. West's AJ Morgan doubled back from his 4x800 win to place third in an impressive 2:04 on
the unseasonably warm day.
East again rallied back with another impressive sweep of the 200 meter dash, led by an incredible 22.4 from East's Thompson to complement his win in the 100 meter dash.
Junior Chris Berry and seniors Alex Predhome and Rob Mitchell then charged to season bests in the 3200 meter run to place second, third, and fourth. Berry ran district-qualifying 9:48.5 despite a
bump-and-run home straightaway, followed closely by Predhome, who had a solid 4:35-9:57 double,
and Mitchell, who dropped a 12-second PR in with his 10:21.
West again rolled in the 4x400 meter relay, as senior Eric Zoleski and junior Austin Kline bookended the relay in 51.8 and 50.6 splits, respectively, along with teammates Ben Smith and Ethan Long tripling back to victory.
West seniors Gesse Bryant and Corey Smith went 2-3 in the high jump. Sophomore long leaper Jamie
Valdez picked up 2nd place in the long jump, and Mr. West Mikey DeMarco picked up 2nd in the triple jump.
DeMarco also placed a clutch second with a season best 12-6 in the pole vault, preceding the performance of the meet with West's Corey Smith flying higher still. Smith re-shattered his own school record of 14-9 and equaled the War Memorial Field Stadium Record with a sky-high vault of 15 feet, one inch. Men in black suits quickly approached the exhausted Smith encouraging him to revive the NASA program. Smith politely declined.
West's implement launchers had the final say on the beautiful day. Juniors Cory Radkins and Ian Fortna both set significant PRs as they went 1-2 in the shot with heaves of 43 and 40 feet, espectively.
West's Gesse Bryant then led a sweep of the discus with the help of juniors John Williams and Cory Radkins as they threw 117-115-115.
Bryant returned in the javelin along with Will Fernandez and Jackson Butkuss to lead another sweep
and close out a dominant performance of 26-1 in the throws and seal the victory
over East for
the Bucks.
