The 4x800 meter relay got things off to a energetic start with a dominating performance, winning in a time 7:46.07, over 8 seconds faster than the next best team. Nico Metzler (1:58) led off in his first District I Championship putting the Bucks towards the front of the pack and handed off to Matt McGarvey (1:57) who put distance between himself and the rest of the field. Matt Bee (1:56) gapped the field even further before handing off to Connor Manley (1:53) who crossed the line in first place. The district title is the second year in a row in the 4x800 for McGarvey, Bee, and Manley.
With the second relay on the track, the 4x100 of Dan Ernst, Bill Bell, Greg Branch, and Rashaad Williams kept the momentum going with CB West's first 4x100 meter gold medal. Their time of 42.27 in the preliminary round was good to yet again break their own school record. Williams also finished in fifth place in the 100 while Ernst finished 5th in the 200. Both performances qualify them for the state championship next weekend.
Points were even scored in the field events, with junior Corey Smith vaulting 13 feet, matching his own personal record and good for a tie for 7th place.
Connor Manley came back to compete in a highly competitive 800 meter field. Manley finished in second with a blistering time of 1:51.50, breaking not only his own school record, but also CB South Tom Mallon's District I record. Manley's time of 1:51.50 is currently the 10th fastest in the U.S. this year.
Manley was not finished, as he led of the second place 4x400 meter relay with Matt Bee, Austin Kline, and Matt McGarvey. The second place finish in the 4x400 sealed the District I Team Championship title.
The CB West Boys' track & field team will travel to Shippensburg University to compete in the PIAA State Championships this Friday and Saturday.
