brings to the table, Smith has now added the outdoor track and field school record. Steve Fischer set the lofty mark of 14 feet, 3 inches in 1983. Today was Smith's day. Smith and Quakertown's Jimmy Harcher entered the competition at 12'6" after all of their competitors had faultered. Both cleared 12'6 and 13'0" on their first attempts. Smith cleared 13'6" on his first attempt as Harcher missed three strong attempts at 13'6". Incredibly, Smith then set the bar at 14'4" and cleared the school record on his first attempt! Smith's only misses on the day came at the magnicent height of 14'6".
The strong competition and cool and calm, sunny day yielded many other strong performances
to boot, as West mustered enough to upend Quakertown 85-65. Highlighting the day were sweeps of he 400 (Kline-Smith-Long), 1600 (Metzler-Berry-Predhome), and 3200 (Berry-Predhome-Mitchell) as well as the relays: 4x800 (Douple, Kline, Griffin, Smith), 4x400 (Metzler, Zoleski, Long, Kline) and come from behind victory from the 4x100 (Grzesnekowski, Kim, Zoleski, and *awww snap* Branch).
District qualifying performances came from Austin Kline in the 400 (51.0), Nico Metzler in the 800 (1:59.9), and Corey Smith in the Pole Vault (14'4"). Smith's vault also betters the provisional qualifying standard for the Penn Relays of 14' 3.25"!
HUGE PRs also came from Gesse Bryant in the high jump (2nd, 5' 6") and the discus (112' 9"), AJ
Morgan (3rd, 2:03.8) and Ben Aunins (2:15.0) in the 800 meter run, Ian Fortna in the shotput (37' 9"), Brandon Ciliberto in the 4x400 (57.9), Jackson Buttkus and John Williams in the javelin throw (132'10" and 133' 3", respectively), Ben Severn in the 1600 (5:11.0), and the 4x100 meter relay (45.4).
